Producers Mad Scientist, Ike Dirty and Chuck Cha-Lo (who handled THE PERTTIEST GIRL) worked with Alja to shape her eclectic sound and Da Runners and Jim Jonsin round out The Perttiest Girl project, where Missy Elliott (shes my mother and she is featured on Perttiest) meets Cyndi Lauper (shes my auntie and her #1 pop hit Girls Just Want to Have Fun is on the project). Prince and Andre 3000 all merge in the mind and music of this talented artist whos not afraid to pay attention to music. She references Labelle (the recently reunited rock-soul-pop group) and Madonna in conversation without a pause. Theres nothing new under the sun, but I feel like Im unique because I am parts and pieces of everything Ive ever heard, but I got it all. They all make sense when they come together in me. Songs like IM BAD, which is about empowering and strong womanhood and WITHDRAWAL, the ballad that will speak to anyone who has had love go away and you have to deal with the absence of something that you are used to having, make the debut of Alja aka Jesse Jane much anticipated. Club-bangers like ON THAT DRANK and DRINK IN MY CUP show that Alja just wants to have fun, but wants to push the envelopes of what people expect from an artist. I take people forward by intertwining sounds. Thats why I call my music ghetto pop. I use pop melodies over 808 tracks. Its club. Its quirky. The vocal arrangements are out of left-field. I just want to make music fun again. Even if Im talking about heartbreak, I want it to be AND WHAT!? If a dude is not doing rightMOVE ON! I want to be able to transition into deeper stuff but coming out of the box, I want to show that young women can be tomboys and still be beautiful and enjoy life. Plus, I want to change what can play on Hot 97. I want to prove that its playing in the clubs and hot as hell and its ghetto-pop. When she speaks on her style, Im sure it Jesse Jane speaking when she says I want to get it all out. We are gonna flood the world with me, so that people can get the full scope. On her fashion flare, she adds I make mix-match look good. It doesnt matter about the brand. My mom took me to the thrift store and thats how I found my look. I love patterns. Purple is favorite. I am the look not the logo. As long as I like it and it makes a statement, thats Jesse Jane. I want to girls to be able to say I WANT THAT! not I GOT THAT! When my first video drops, I want everybody to say WTF!? Thats Alja. Thats Jesse Jane. They are both about to take the world by storm! ALJA AKA JESSE JANE SPEAKS ON HER MUSICAL FAMILY On the interlude, WHO YOU SOUND LIKE, Alja AKA Jesse Jane, speaks on influences. Instead of bothering with comparisons, Alja draws her amazing family tree. Missy Elliott: She is my mother. Man, shes creative and innovative. Shes the SH*T! We have the same favorite color (PURPLE) and were both the same (zodiac) sign (CANCER). She wanted us to get the same Cancer tat, but I already have one. Prince: Hes my father. Hes just sexy as hell. Hes the epitome of sexy sells not just sex. But the good thing about him is he backs it up! I really like that he makes everybody uncomfortable when they watch him. Girls are warm inside and dudes dont even know if they should look right at him. I love that. Andre 3000: Hes mix-match. Hes me. He takes any genre and puts it with hip-hop. Hes on his own terrain, his own planet. Hes one of the best rappers because hes a picture-painter and his analogies, his allegories, are sick when he rhymes. I take after him. Hes my brother. Cyndi Lauper: (SCREAMS) Shes so colorful and not afraid to do anything. Shes stylish and her own person. Shes a character but she can really sing. She made people pay attention but they always got talent when they stopped to listen. Shes my auntie. Madonna: Shes an Icon and shes still making music that people love. I aspire to have her kind of longevity. Shes got staying power and her fans have traveled with her. Shes my godmother. Michael Jackson: Thats crazy. Hes a little crazy, but hes my favorite uncle. Hes crazy on stage and nobody can touch him. He is definitely the King and he still has those moves. I love how he took over the pop arena. Heres this Black dude, taking over. I love it. He is THE most universal artist, ever. Tina Turner: Shes my grandmother. Shes amazing and the ultimate female performer. I dont think she really gets her due; her vocals are sick and she has back-up dancers that cant even hang with her. She kills it. I would love to meet her.
